|Would anyone have any comments on the 2001 model Ksyrium vs. the 2002 Ksyrium SSC SL? I am trying to decide whether to buy the old or the new model. I have not actually seen the new model except in pictures, but it looks to me that the milling on the rim creates an uneven rim surface. If that is true, the weight savings would seem largely compromised by the aerodynamic drag increase of the uneven surface.
Has anyone had a look at the new model?
Is my thinking flawed?

|I'm by no means an expert on the subject, but from what I've read, the only changes in the Ksyrium SL versus last year's Ksyrium is a slightly more aerodynamic rim profile and reduced weight. I don't know anything about an uneven rim surface, but your concern about increased aerodynamic drag would seem counter to Mavic's claim of a more aerodynamic profile. Of course, it's hard to trust Mavic's claims when my 2001 Ksyriums don't weigh anything near what they say they should.|

|I believe the weight savings were largely from milling out material on the rim between the spokes which is what I was referring to in saying that the rim now seems to have an uneven surface. Again, I am only going on photos.|

|Be careful not to confuse the 2001 Ksyrium to the 2002. In 2002 there are 2 Ksyrium models. The 2001 (single model)used a SSC hubset and the fancy spokes. The 2002 SSC SL is indentical to the 2001 except for the shaved rim. For 2002 there is also have introduced a cheaper version called the Ksyrium that uses cheap hubs and less fancy spokes. Very different from the 2001 Ksyrium. Are you confused yet?|| |
