|WASHINGTON (AP) A North Carolina company is recalling about 1,150 bicycle wheel rims because they can crack, causing riders to lose control and fall.
Performance Inc., of Chapel Hill, N.C., has received two reports of rims failing, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday. No injuries have been reported.
The recalled Performance Forte/Forte SL rims were sold individually and used in Performance Forte SL road wheels and on both the front and rear wheels of the 2001 R-101 model Performance bicycles. The brand and model names are on the rims, which come in silver or black.
Performance stores and the company's Web site sold these bicycle rims from February 2001 through October 2001. Bicycle wheels with rims built on cost between $35 and $130 and Performance bicycles that included the rims cost $600.
The safety commission said consumers should stop using bicycles that have the rims and return the wheels to a Performance Store for free replacements. For more information, consumers can call Performance at 1-800-553-8324 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
