and start making 404's. I'm looking to buy a pair of 440's and would like to know the approximate age and what the major difference is compared to 404's. Any help would be appreciated.

For the 2000 model year the 440 became the 404. The difference is that the 404 uses a slightly different carbon/graphite lay-up, yielding a lighter rim with the same depth as the 440.
Thanks a bunch. ( nm )JS

Call Zipp. I purchased a used set of 440's this summer. Which I like very much. My only complaint is they will catch a heavy cross wind, not half as bad a Spinergy but they do. Another diference may be the braking surface depending on the year. I have been very pleased with the wheels.
May I ask what you paid?JS

If not I'll understand. Just trying to get an idea of worth of these.

I paid 300 for the wheels, tires that I only got another 50 miles out of and the 9 sp record hub with a 9sp cassette. Then I think I sold the cassette for around 50 bucks and put a 10 sp cassette on.
