So there we were yesterday, doing the regular Sunday afternoon club ride. This time its three guys over 55, yes 55, running with a 20 year old college co-ed home for the weekend. The majority of the local bike club male riders, are pushing 50, if not over 50. Cycling is the perfect sport for us oldsters: low impact on our ageing joints, a great heart pounding workout doing something we did as kids, the perfect medicine for the mid life crisis.

So why do racers like Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, even Greg LeMond, look like they hardly ever ride anymore? Burn out? They all look out of shape, unlike our band of brothers on the Sunday afternoon club ride!
