|Which steel frame and fork to keep?||Frank|

|I have decided that, for me, lugged steel is my preference in a frame and fork. Having decided that, I am selling my Litespeed Ultimate frame and fork. That leaves me with trying to decide on keeping and building up one, and selling the other one, between a near new condition Merckx TSX Century or a new Bob Jackson 531C frame and fork. Both are in wonderful condition, have very pretty paint and excellent attention to detail, will fit me well, and will serve all of my riding needs. I have not been able to ride them as they are not built up, so I would welcome any input from folks who have ridden and owned either and, hopefully, both brands of bikes. Thanks!|

|As an owner of a Merckx (SLX) myself, I'd lean toward keeping the Belgian made frame. The TSX tubing is rifled through out, adding rigidity that may not be noticed in the 531 Jackson. That being said, both bikes are excellent quality in both craftsmanship and ride quality. Both tube sets are no longer made and obsolete given todays ultralight, thin walled, multishaped tubes. Reynolds and Columbus have been in the tubing industry for a long time, so choosing one tubeset over the other based on reputation and quality will not help you. You're Jackson is much more unique than the Merckx, so it will have a bit more "oohhh, aahhh" factor when other cyclists see your ride.
I think you can really go either way in keeping one frame, and both will last thousands of miles.
Good Luck (I'm glad I don't have to make that decision!!)

|Thanks for remembering my situation. At that time, I had a Litespeed Ultimate and Tommasini SLX Super Prestige built up that I rode, and was trying to decide between keeping the Merckx and Jackson. My decision after that discussion was to keep the Tommasini and Ultimate and put the Merckx and Jackson up for sale, keeping the one that didn't sell. While both got several inquiries, neither sold so I still have them both. In the time and rides that have passed, I have since decided to keep the Tommasini, but will sell the Ultimate and the Merckx or Jackson. I guess I was hoping selling one would help me make the decision, but since it didn't (plus that might not be the best way to decide...)I am hoping for someone with experince with both, hopefully, that can tell me their thoughts. I know this comes down to me making the decision, but it has helped in the past to hear from those with actual experience.|| |
