chain question number one(6 posts)

chain question number onemaximum15

My mountain bike has been hanging on the wall for about three months (I really do prefer the road bike). Decided to take it down and do an easy ride. YIKES -- three or four chain links are stiff. The rest of the chain is fine, nice and loose. Anyone with an idea of how to loosen the stiff links? I cleaned it in an ultrasonic cleaner with mineral spirts but it still has the stiff links. Any ideas for salvaging it?

on either side of the stiff links. Flex it back and forth with some pressure. Lubricate generously.
If that don't workPerez

Take it off and simmer it in a pan of hot oil for a while.

...quit being so cheap and go buy a new chain. They do't cost that much, do they?

by putting your hands on the sides of the chain not on the top and bottom. Then apply pressure back and forth. It seems like it's an un-natural way to loosen but don't worry, the chain won't break.
I thought I was the only one who used an Ultrasonic cleaner (nm)vanzutas
