Realized a riding goal today!Mike P.

Today I finally realized a major goal I set for myself last year. I have been trying to complete a metric century in 3 hours. I finished in 3:02 today!!! Might have been a few minutes faster but I missed a turn. If I wasn't so tired right now I would be jumping up and down as I type this.

I rode my first metric century (3 State 3 Mountain Century) last year, in the spring, in 3:38. It became a goal of mine to finish one in 3 hours. So I started training with my goal in mind, much to the dismay of my girlfriend. Next one I did I was last fall (Sequatchie Valley Century). 3:18 on that one but my chain broke and I ended up doing the last 40 miles on my own; and it was cold and windy; and my head hurt. Next one was this spring, same ride as my first, 3:13 this time though. I felt really good but with an hour left, the metric split from the full century, and of course, from a group of 15 or so, I was 1 of only 2 that turned off for the metric route. This summer I rode one in 3:04, (Tour de Signal), but my odometer showed it 5 or 6 miles short. It was hot that day and I experienced some leg cramps. Fun.

And today! N. Georgia Century. I have been feeling really strong the last couple weeks so physically, I was ready. And the weather. . . very wet, a bit windy, and lots of dark clouds. I have always enjoyed foul weather so I think it may have helped me mentally. Seems like I can just get into a better groove or something; more focused maybe. Anyway, I got in with the lead group of 10 to 15 from the start. Stayed with them for the first 15 miles. Then the metric split from the longer rides. I was on my own for the rest of the ride. Now I feel good. . . and tired. I may not ride Monday.

Congrats!! Great feeling, isn't it? (nm)Jon

you've still 2 minutes to go. But you're real close and if you keep up your riding, you're going to break on through for sure. And that's going to feel real good.
