|Did a metric century today, a benefit for Pedal Power ( http://www.pedal-power.org/ ), a group that gets inner city kids into cycling. Started at Crissy Field underneath the Golden Gate Bridge about 7:45. The weather was near perfect: cool in the shade, warm in the sun and virtually no wind, which is as rare as hen's teeth on the GG bridge. Across to Marin headlands, through Sausalito, Muir Woods, ending at a rest stop in Stinson Beach. Drank a cappuccino in sunlight so clear it made colors bounce. From the coast, it was a long pedal up Fairfax/Bolinas Road the back of Mount Tamalpais to a spectacular view of San Francisco Bay. Coasted down to Sausalito, and a quick climb to the Bridge to finish the ride. I felt stronger at the end than I did at the beginning (fought a leg cramp for the first 10 miles or so),
If you can swing it, October is the best month to visit Northern California. When Indian Summer hits, there is no finer place for bike riding than the Northern California coast.
