After years of cycling and hearing my team mates talk about bag balm, chamois butter, etc I came to this board to hear so many people attest to the butter's powers!. SO I said what the heck lets give it a try!. I got the Cafe Chamois Cream and used it today!! OH BOY... I am sure this is what babies feel when you put gel on diper-rash!

Thanks to you all I will never again ride without chamois cream... it is if someone just introduced me to saddles.. :-)
not in prison, I hopeDog

I talked to a local shop owner about how much better it is to use these products than not. He really wished that he knew about it when he raced. I don't race (yet), but I use it on every ride.
and to think of all $'s ive wasted at the blue oyster :-Odupe

I always see boxes of it for sale at the vendors during the week-long ride across Iowa every year. I bought some last year, but decided the money would be better spent going towards good cycling shorts. I know some of the people I ride with swear by it, but I thought it was just because they didn't ride enough. Am I mistaken?
That's what I thought for years...nestorl

Not that they did not ride enough, but that they probably had bad shorts :-). But believe me, it makes the biggest difference I've felt since I upgraded my wheels from shimano 105 to mavic krs :-)
Is it better than nice cheap petrolium jelly? nm.muncher

I don't know how much the chamois cream is but I got a big tub of utter butter at the drug store. It has a little pump top so I don't have to stick my hand in it. then I just give myself a little rubdown and it is great. so If you want to give it a try check the drug store. it works for me.
Is it medicated?nestorl

Because the cream I got is antibacterial and antifugal. So maybe that is the difference on price. I paid $19 for the large container.
stick, tub, or squirt bottle?nm

I've been using Cafe Chamois Creme since the beginning of this year, and it's made a HUGE difference in my on-the-bike comfort. I use Pearl Izumi Microsensor bibs (top notch), and I still see a major improvement. Someone said that they thought it was that people use cheap shorts, but the stuff will make ANY pair of shorts/bibs feel so much more comfortable. Plus, there's the hygenic angle to note.

Here's to ya, nestorl! Happy riding!
