|Just wondering...what's the most amount of miles you've ever ridden in one day? My most is only 62.52 miles, I guess I'm still a newbie :). But, I'm planning on doing a solo century this winter.

|About 120 miles in about 7 hours of ride time. It was my first century. Somehow the routes were all marked badly and a bunch of us wound up doing the 13 mile loop instead of the 100. So we all left to do the route again and then I got lost for awhile and when I finially finished the "century" I already did like 120 miles on my computer.. Fortunately, it was a very flat century... |

Did it last month, in fact, including 152 in a day.
Beware ... the distance bug bites hard. It is very addictive!

|It was a birthday gift - my first Century, solo unsupported. From one newbie to another, congrats on 60+. :-) |
Oct 7, 2001 5:09 PM
|Earlier this year I set out on a century that I had not yet checked out but my friend and I figured the route was a little over 100 miles. well it was 126 so it was a good ride. He did not understand drafting (he still wont do it) so it was pretty much a solo ride with a guy 20 feet behind me.|

|A very hilly 109kms/68miles. I only ever ride solo, so if I ride any further it tends to get boring. Hopefully when my brother gets back into cycling we can push upto 150km/93miles.

With another person: 135
62.52 is a perfectly respectable number, Al. Don't sweat it--be proud of yourself, and boast of it to family and friends. (Do it casually, and watch their reactions!) :)

|When I did the 62, I was alone, so it got kinda boring. Hmmm...Maybe I should find an organized century instead of doing it solo. This way, I'll get a nice draft!|

|Long solo jaunts for endurance can get dull. It's amazing the difference that having only one person to chat with can make. The miles pass like NOTHING. The people I generally ride with don't do the drafting thing (I can and have, but not everyone's comfortable with it--it's kind of unnatural to most who don't race, at least at first). Just chatting away the miles works quite nicely. Quality time!
Enjoy the road as it gets longer and longer (and you get fitter and fitter).

|...rode from my house in Knoxville, TN. up to Cades cove in the Smokies and then made it back down the mountain before it got so dark I needed someone to come pick me up. I was planning to do the entire round trip, about 120 miles, but got a later start than I expected. When my light failed, and I was starting to get paranoid about the small shoulders on the mountain roads, I figured it was time to call it quits and try another day.

|Hey, thanks for the feedback! :o) I'm also a newbie to the road cycling scene...just recently bitten by the bug this Summer. I figure once I get some experience and a few thousand miles under my belt I'll then put a section on my web pages for cycling...that and once I find the time!! :o)

|Why ride far anyway? I rarely ride more than 70 miles. Much rather enjoy fast as hell 40 miler than a raw hamburger in the pants after a century. When I get older, I will start doing all the long rides though, I am sure.
