I recently saw a recipe in the SF Chronicle for a home made sports drink. Salt, sugar, fruit drink mix... Anyone have such a recipe?
Try Gatorade with a little salt...MrCelloBoy

Maybe 1/2 tsp.
Drink it before it's too late!
We've been taking Pottasium supplements also on hot hilly rides.
I still cramp on occasion but i'm, able to ride through it successfully if I guzzle the drinks and H20 and breathe deeply.

This one is pretty easy -- a 50/50 mix of Countrytime Lemonade mix and Instant Iced Tea (unsweetened). Tasty... If you want sodium, throw a little salt in. Never done it myself...I salt the heck out of my food, so additional sodium is usually the last thing that I need.

34 oz H2O
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tbsp fruit mix crystals
2 teaspoons salt

Makes a 6.6 % carb solution w/ 500 mg sodium.

Substiture a flat can o' cola w/ 2-3 teaspoons sugar to add 45 mg caffeine, or maybe the ice tea mix described above.

50/50 mix of Mountain Dew and water or Pedialite with a pinch of baking soda. I can go all day on that and bananas without having stomach problems, all you really need is sugar, sodium and potassium. Plus you get the caffeine bump and its cheap and easy to buy on the road.

get one of those little stove-top Italian espresso makers. Brew espresso, pour it back into the pot, refill with fresh grounds, and brew it again. Add about 10 teaspoons of sugar and a shot of rum, put it in a TA atom bottle with the cute little cork, and chug it down when you need to catch that second wind. Win sprint, then stay up late talking and watching Conan.
