The track World's started yesterday in Antwerp. Eurosport has coverage every night in addition to the Vuelta during the day. Armstrong, Merckx and Ekimov were among the VIP's and teams on the infield.

Defending three-time World champion from France, Tournant dominated in the kilo, riding the four fastest splits showing that his 5th in the Olympics was a fluke and/or from feeling the pressure. It was funny in that as he was taking his warm down lap with hands off the bar, his front wheel turned and he stopped pedaling causing the rear wheel to skid on the apron and down he went. Fixed gear riders take note.

Interesting to see that more than a few riders in the kilo were not using conventional track pedals with double straps but instead using Shimano SPD-R pedals. Makes one believe that you don't pull out of these babies.

Jason Queally, current Olympic gold Champion in the Kilo and Hugh Porter, former world champion in the pursuit (B & W era), provided commentary. Queally, who did not participate as he's going after the land speed record, knows all the riders, their usual split times and was able to provide great insight into the event. It's too bad that Nothstein's not participating. It would have been nice to see him attempt to repeat his Olympic success at the World's where he hasn't faired as well in the last few years so I imagine that one of the French team will win unless crafty but aging Jens Fiedler outsmarts the faster French riders.

No excuse. Reportedly his wife didn't want him to travel. Neither did mine this week, but I travelled
anyway.

SPD_R pedals
light weight and high clearance makes them track friendly.
