Looking for riding partners for lunchtime road rides a couple times a week. Damn time change!
Anyone out there?

I've been up there lots and lots and lots. Going there next week again as a matter of fact. I've never brought my ride. Are there any good roads to ride? Man, they're all awfully crowded and tight and no shoulder, not at all good for road riding that I've ever seen. Matter of fact I don't remember ever seeing a rider.

This is not to say they don't exist, just that I've never seen them.

I simply bring the clubs all the time.

I live over the hill, but I've ridden all over Aptos and the greater Santa Cruz area. In Aptos, some of the roads are tight around Trout Gulch, but otherwise it is outstanding riding. For a good lunch ride, do a loop towards Corralitos.

Please post some good riding areas in Aptos. I'll check them out when I'm there next week for the inevitable next trip. Thank you!

Get off the flats and head up into the hills. Just about any road is good but old SC Hwy can be a bit busy. Reason why you don't see anyone is that trying to ride down on the flats with all the traffic, dogs and people is just a bit too risky. This is a serious bike town. Make no mistake. If you still can't figure it out go to a good LBS (Spokesman for one) and get a Krebs map - it even has suggested loops.

There is fantastic riding in Aptos...
My usual ride is from work at Soquel Dr and Rio Del Mar. Continue N on Soquel and make R on Freedom. Up over freeway, then L on Bonita. That dead ends at San Andreas. Make a R and you've got a pretty flat, nice shoulder, beautiful scenery until Beach St in Watsonville. That's my turn around.

If you go L on San Andreas from Bonita, you'll go up over Larkin Valley. Very decent climbs. At the top, you can go L on White Rd or straight down the other side into the Valley. That will also take you into Watsonville - my turn around point.

Before the days shortened, we would hit both of those rides each night for a great work out and de-stresser.

We ride all the time at lunch. I live and work in Scotts Valley, but we typically blast down La Madrona, Glenn Canyon, or Granite Creek then return one of the other ways. You need to discover Branciforte (B40) and Happy Valley. Sometimes when I'm solo and feeling mellow I'll eat my lunch at the light house on West Cliff. Now that the bike paths are finished along the San Lorenzo you've got and easy way to zip through town. You could also head out Freedom Blvd and take a loop through Corrolitos area. Green Valley road is also pretty cool.

Currently we've been hitting single track on our MTBs up in SV, but will break out the road machines with the time change. Drop your email and maybe we can coordinate.
