Lance continues to screw Heras(17 posts)

Cyclingnews.com reported that Lance has picked Sevilla to win the Vuelta. I would think that no matter what he really believes he should support Heras. So first he says he would ride for Heras in the Vuelta and he doesn't and now this.

interesting to watch the dynamics of the Posties unfold for the next couple of years. Looks like the team is starting to develop a lot of good stage racers in addition to Lance. Wonder if he will have a problem with that or will he support them in races other than TDF.

And isn't it nice to have Cyclingnews.com & OLN's good coverage of racing.
Logic might be a strong word.Pack Meat

I was just thinking that Heras is not in a terrible position in the Vuelta and Lance should express complete confidence in Heras pulling out a great finish. Instead he tells the press that thinks Sevilla will win the race. He is not being a supportive teammate. How hard would be to express confidence in Heras's ability?

You always conveniently omit what Lance really said concerning the Vuelta, way back in April:

"I don't want to get myself in a corner here, where I'm fully committed to doing the Vuelta, but I believe in returning favors. "

You'll find it here: http://www.cyclingnews.com/results/2001/apr01/apr13news.shtml

Now, another couple of doses of reality for you, after which I hope you will never bring this up again.

1. Lance was suffering from the flu the second week of September and probably wouldn't have started the Vuelta if he had been on the team. He dropped out of the GP San Francisco and cancelled all personal appearences during what was the first week of the Vuelta.

2. Let's say Lance rode the Vuelta. What more could he do for Heras that Rubiera and Leipheimer haven't done? The fact is, Heras wasn't able to challenge Sevilla and Casero when he needed to, and all Lance could have done was watch. Rubiera and Leipheimer have been outstanding in support of Heras, but Heras wasn't strong enough to capitalize on it.

3. What good does it do for Lance to say Heras can win? No one believes it. Not on USPS, whose DS and riders have already conceded that they are only battling for a podium position and the team competition. Not Heras himself, who knows he can't make up over 2 minutes on Sevilla and Casero, especially since the final TT is a weakness. In fact, here's what Heras says:

"The Vuelta is practically impossible to win but the important thing is that we are there every day."

You'll find that here: http://www.cyclingnews.com/results/2001/sep01/sep24news.php

So if Heras doesn't believe it, why should Lance stick his head in the sand and irrationally support Heras?

Now please, go find a real cause, preferably one based in reality. If you need help, try this one: Why is Richard Virenque still allowed to ride?

Feel free to bring up what you want on this board, but be ready to be challenged if it is wrong.

The facts were all readily available on cyclingnews, a source which the original poster cited. If the original poster didn't know the facts, a statement such as "Lance continues to screw Heras" is totally uncalled for and indefensible.

And if, as you say, it is ok to bring up whatever you want on this board, what is your problem with what I said anyway?
Virenque!!!frenchie

Virenque is finding form, seemingly without drugs. Good for him. They all dope/doped, but Richard got caught. He loves the sport and makes a comeback after the suspension.

Why is he allowed to ride? Because he's alot better than you are and can finish up front.

On OLN the other night Heras was quoted as saying he would finish third. If he doesn't believe he can win, why should Lance?

I agree with the previous poster, I am getting spoiled by OLN's coverage of the Grand Tours.

I believe Lance is getting paid to win the TDF. Heras is getting paid to help him. End of story.
