|Trauma induced patella tendonitis in left knee. Completed last triathlon of the season two weeks ago. Cycling is what causes me pain. Took one week completely off. Light run, swim, and weight work outs last week. Light again this week with a few more work outs. Hope to be on bike next week.
Concerned about relapse. Any thoughts on this? I've been icing, stretching, and taking one Aleve at night and in morning. Knee feels much better. If it feels funny, I stretch and that seems to relieve it. What's 100% recovery time on this? Should I be staying off of it even if it feels better to avoid relapse?

|Please describe the symptoms to me as I think I might be experiencing the same thing. I have a stinging pain on the front of my knee at the knee cap. This surfaced after I did a century last weekend. It is not bad at all but I have a week long tour coming up in 2 weeks and need to do some preventive stuff so it does not re-occur like last year on a week long tour. Last year I had the same problem at about day 3 of the tour that lasted the rest of the week. Never experienced knee problems before and don't want to start. Bike feels all dialed in seat wise, the problem occurs when I ride alot in successive days, beyond 3 days/60 miles per. I attributed last years occurrance to a lack of training before the big ride and now I wonder. Doing the ice, rest, aleve routine as well.|

|Pain occurs on upper left hand corner of patella where tendon joins quad to patella. It is tender to touch.
You might also have Patello Femoral syndrome which can be caused by an over-developed quad. I got this last January after increased my cycling due to a running injury. Basically, there is an imbalance in your quad muscle causing your knee cap to track improperlyl. RICE for seven days and if the problem persists,see a doctor.

|All the above remedies work. I had to move my seat up and back slightly to get over this problem for the long haul. Good luck.|

|2 weeks rest sounds about right. Start out with shorter and easier rides and then build up to longer stuff if you are pain free.|| |
