what's that all about? today's stage was won by a spaniard and he came across the line kissing his wrist, the previous stage, before the rest day, also a spanish winner, he did the same too. what is the significance of that? is it a spanish thing? or a purely Basque thing?

They were doing it to honor the deceased mother of their direrteur sportif.

They were kissing a medallion on their wrists in memory of a relative of the directeur sportif.
