i've got a fairly old hand-me-down bike and it has some rust in a few places - on the crank bolt i believe it's called and some other places. is there a way to stop it from rusting anymore or at least spreading? it's my 'commuter' bike and i really don't want to spend anymore money to replace things. thanks.

Go to a boating store (Boater's World, West Marine) and buy a can of Boeshield T-9 and a bottle of RustFree rust remover made by the same company. Spray the RustFree on anything that has rusted and let it work its magic for a few minutes. Wipe clean. Spray the T-9 on the affected part and let it dry, then wipe lightly. This really works. Boeshield is expensive, but well worth the money.
