My sweetie/stoker birthday-surprised me this past weekend with riding the Surf City Century in Santa Cruz. I captained the Calfee for the first 45 of the Metric, and then we switched positions and continued on for the last 20.
Wow.
I tell ya, changing from Captain to Stoker is a REAL challenge for BOTH!
I love it, and we'll continue doing it to expand our relationship and world-view.

The Calfee continues to impress and amaze me. We dropped the chain early on, exposing some carbon fiber underneath our beautiful paint : (. Oh well. I'm over it!
Also jammed the chain between the big and middle ring on s too-quick shift going up a short steep. Successfully dismounted before falling over, and successfully unjammed the chain.
We also stopped at Calfee and got the royal tour from Craig!
He showed us a bamboo bike he's built. Apparently there's one being used at the Ironman in Hawaii soon.
Whatta cool bike!~

I ride at the front of the tandem. She rides at the front the rest of the time. Since about 2/3 of our non commuting miles are on the tandem it works out pretty well.

Just think - we could have an entirely new frame materials discussion!
Then there would be Euro wood vrs New World wood.MB1

And west coast vrs east coast woods. Old growth vrs designer wood. This could be very good for the industry.

We would have to be sure to avoid any of that light weight hi-tech Chinese wood harvested by slave labor.
I prefer Natalie Wood....nmmr_spin
