|My BUTT hurts.Whats the secret?I can phsyicaly pedel much further than I can sit in that seat!No chaffing no blisters just extream downward pressure and pain.Forget gel seats and that kind of thing it only seams good at first.5 hrs. and your butt hurts.Any hints.I was going to put oragel on my butt,or as my dad suggested maybe ask my denitist for a novacain ingection.|

|it hasn't. It has gotten better with more riding and my butt getting used to it. But for the most part it will always be there for me.
I have found a really good seat for my posterior and modified my riding position over time to arrive where I am. I can now generally go about a good hour before the pain or numbness sets in, after that it's a lot of time in and out of the saddle.
Good luck in finding a good saddle and solving your problem. I would suggest trying as many saddles as you can to find one that fits well and adjust your riding position and seeing what works and doesn't work.

|I agree with your assessment of gel saddles. An all gel seats feels great at first but then you realize that the some of the gel is squished into tender spots that don't take kindly to that unexpected pressure. First, check to make sure that your saddle is at least level - a upward tipped seat (nose up) is definitely painful. You might also consider trying moving your the nose downward SLIGHTLY. This can help relieve pressure in certain places. I've found that anatomically designed seats are best for me.
I bought 7-8 saddles before I finally found one I could ride for hours in comfort. A few companies are now providing a money back guarantee if it's not comfy. That's want motivated me to try a Koobi (koobi.com) and it's the most comfortable saddle I've ever used.

|You don't say how long you've been riding. There was a period when I first started riding where my butt would get sore on long rides, but after a while I guess my body got used to it.
If you've been riding a while and you're still having problems, trying a new saddle is definitely in order. Terry has a money-back guarantee on their saddles. You might try a Fly or a Liberator.

|That is a tough question. It seems as though some people can get on any saddle with no problem. Others can't get on any saddle without a problem.There may be a connection with the riders weight. I just put on saddle #7 yesterday.That is in a little less than one year. It might just work for my butt.One thing that might help until you find a good saddle for your butt is to get off the bike for 2-3 minutes when it starts to bother you. Don't wait until it hurts so bad that you can't think of anything else.Most online shops will let you return a saddle that does not work for you.When #5 got here I never even made it out of my driveway. It was obvious it would not work for me.Good Luck|

|Try taking more of your weight on your hands. Your words "sit in that seat" make me picture an upright rider with his hands lightly resting on the bars. Reach forward and let your hands, arms, and shoulders support more of your body. If you've had no soreness in your shoulders, you should have. Feel like you're wedged between the bars and the seat rather than sitting in the seat. Good luck and keep riding. The rewards are worth it.|

Perhaps we can suggest something different.
I have a road bike which came with the ugliest and most
painful saddle available, the "torque d'amada", which
is sort of a joke for "it doesn't deserve recognition."
What I ended up doing after riding about 165 miles on it
is put a different seat on it, a seat that used to be on
my mountain bike at one time. Made a HUGE difference.
I can at least ride it now without dying after a few
hours. I suspect a Selle San Marco saddle might be
even better but for now this should do fine.
From 165 on friday miles went to over 200 last night.
I think it will work.
Also, make sure you've got your seatpost height set
properly. I discovered that my mountain bike was set
too low (after over 200 miles) and my road bike was
slightly too high. After making the adjustments it's
much, much better.

|I have been riding a Flite Ti since they came out but this year mine hurt my ishiums (sit bones) something terrible. I could take 3 days off but when I sat on the bike the next day, it hurt for the first 3 minutes so much it was almost impossible to sit. It got better after a few more minutes and the pain stableized for an hour or two before it got bad again. I tried all kinds of positions.
I switched to a San Marco Era and everything worked like magic. All the pain went away. I stopped having numbness problems once I tilted the nose up on the old saddle months back.
My bars are 2 3/4 inches below the saddle and I rarely put much pressure on my hands. Most of my weight is on the saddle. A strong back and stomach help stablize this position/weight balance. To each his own. You have to find out what saddle and position works best for you. I'm a mutant!

|Three years ago, I got bad sores from a gel saddle. Now, I ride double centuries on a Selle Italia SLR (practically no padding), fairly comfortably. Your butt adapts.
Shorts are very important, too.

|You could try to push your seat back a little, this will place your upper body weight further forward as you have to reach further. If your seat is too close to the bars it forces the rider to sit more upright putting more pressure on the bum areas. Make sure your seat is in a flat position, and try different positions forward/back to get a comfortable ride.
Maybe your "nicks" are due to be changed, I have noticed mine aren't as thick as the new ones are. The padding gets thinner over time.
