|I am a new road rider and experiencing some bad knee pains. I have been riding MTB for 5 years and I do some pretty long and hard rides. |
I recently bought a road bike and I am training for a 2 day 150 mile ride. Yesterday I road 52 miles. It is my longest single day ride. On the last few miles I started getting a stinging feeling on the top of my knee. Later on in the day it really began to get painful. Today it hurts something fierce.
The pain is almost like a bruise. It is right on top of the knee cap. I would expect a pain in the muscles but not on the bone.
I have 120 miles on this bike before yesterday and hadn't experienced that pain before.
Has anyone had a similar pain? I think I am going to see my sports med doc, but I was just curious if anyone else had experienced this.

|classic tendonitis. Sorry. A few things will help:
- for now, stay off the bike for a few days and use ice and aleve.
- raise your saddle!!!
- make sure you cadance is at or above 100rpm. I used to have severe knee pains until I began spining!!! at 110rpm I never feel pain.
- check the float of your shoes and the position of your feet when you pedal
- NEVER ride more than 2 hard days in a row. Some people even suggest (for people who have tendonitis) to always have a rest/easy day after EACH hard day.
Hope it goes away :-)

|Are you sure the bike fits you. See chart at www.coloradocyclist.com for general fit info. This is general and some riders are a little different. You may need to experiment some too.
I also take glucosimine for knee problems. If you have joint problems, look into it.
