in a state of siege. As I type this, police have stopped all traffic over the four bridges leading in and out of Staten Island. Schools are in lock down. A car full of explosives was discovered abandoned along the highway. the sound of sirens and helicopters fill the air. This is truly surreal! I don't think these mad people are finished.

could we go back to cycling?

I hate to think that a bunch of terrorists can intimidate the whole nation.

We alive and we must live our lives.

The only fear we should fear is the fear itself

I wrote the post out of the strange shock we here in the middle of this crap are experiencing. Our lives cannot proceed in normal fassion. I thought I would get out today to ride and try to forget what has kept me awake these past two nights and istead find that the welfare of our children and the welfare of me, my family and my neighbors is in jeopardy. So yes I would like to go back to cycling, but real danger is in the air for all of us!
It is your mind , your psyche that is under attack...Tom C

and all I have to do to confirm what is happening is to go outside. There are police helicopters filling the air and friends with children have confirmed the school lockdown. CBS just confirmed the report that a red car containg terrorists suspect was tracked crossing into Staten Island in a red car. Police have put up road block at key intersections in an attempt to find them. I am experiencing this first hand. I don't need an outside source to confirm what I know is happening before my eyes!
Did CBS confirm that the red car was found or that there was abill

report of a red car that is being investigated? Because they're different. I know that American U has had some scares, and, for an area that right now is a "no-fly" zone, the skies over Arlington this morning were pretty darn busy. I think that there was some sort of scare over at the Pentagon.
You know, when you think that, in a country of 250 million people, with coordinated attacks on a city of 8 million, where millions more go to work every day, and on the seat of military power in the free world, the best laid plans of these a**holes got no more than a couple of thousand people in New York and a couple of hundred in Arlington, I just think that we should keep our heads. I really don't want these f*ckheads glorified anymore, particularly with a loss of grip on reality. A tragedy, yes, but they are not going to win with this, for sure. Not a question.
For those who lost, we grieve, because we are American and because we're human. But, as momentous as this is, let's not lose what they want us to lose. Of course the economy, the government, the country, democracy, and liberty will survive.
EVERYBODY. GO HOME AND HUG YOUR WIFE, YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR KIDS, YOUR MOM, YOUR DAD, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR SISTER, YOUR FRIENDS. You're alive, and so are they; and if they're not, we count the human loss, because we're civilized, and we move on, because the best thing we can do is to show the bastards that they can't win. Metaphorically speaking, GO RIDE YOUR BIKE.
