|Gunnar Street Dog. A single speed cyclocross type frame with track dropouts. A very bright yellow. We have enjoyed our track bikes so much I decided to replace my Fuji track bike-a fine bike and really good value-with one more suited for road riding.
The Gunnar has a lighter longer frame with more clearance for tires and fenders than the Fuji. I'll post more later once I build it up.
Any gearing or equipment suggestions welcome.

|It's sitting in my office waiting for 5pm to hit the dirt trails along the Des Plaines river. I should see more deer than people, and the songbirds' reverse migration is in full swing. September is Chicago's most beautiful month (winner by a nose in a hot contest with May). The street dog is a great exploration bike.
As far as equipment, I find a flip flop hub to be very handy. On mine, there's a 16T cog on one side, and a 20T freewheel on the other. 42T up front. 70 inches fixed gets me to the trail and 55 free gets me around on it. But I'm sure you know what type of gearing you need better that we do.
Just one last equipment note - if you have a flip flop hub, it helps to have a tire with a pattern that works both ways. In cross tires, this basically means a Vittoria.
Beyond that, all I can say is enjoy!

|These sound like a great idea. As I understand from your post, it's a hub with cassettes on both ends? So you flip the wheel around for a different gear choice? I've never seen anything like it. Who makes these things?
Excuse my ignorance but this is a single speed right?

|The way it works is that one side is threaded for a fixed cog and lock-ring, and the other is set up without the land for the lockring so that you can run a single-gear freewheel (BMX-type) cassette.
Suzue makes a reasonably priced hub that works well. The only thing about the Suzue is that they are not sealed very well, so that you have to be willing to either keep them dry or repack them often. Third Hand and Excel carry them.

|Phil Wood makes them, among others. You can put a BMX freewheel on one side and a track cog on the other (my setup), or two freewheels, etc.
And yes, it's a singlespeed and has spacing to accept track hubs which, 120mm. I think you can get flip flop hubs in road spacing, but if not you can squeeze a 132.5 surly flip flop hub in there.

|Phil Wood. Expensive, but beautiful. Truly components that, with proper care, will last a lifetime.
For gearing, I usually run about 75 gear inches.

|The nice thing about a SS is you can avoid the whole Shimano-Campy debate. Instead you get to take part in the botique part debate.

|The similarities between our parts lists is scary. FWIW, my Crosshairs came with the rear triangle slightly out of alignment and Gunnar is going to have to send out a new frame. You may want to check your over pretty carefully before you build it up.|

|Mine was off in the vertical plane - shifting was OK after the LBS bent the hanger a skosh, then we realized what the problem really was. PITA tho...|

|I remember you mentioning that you were going to use your Bianchi components to build up your Gunnar. I thought the Bianchi had Italian threads and spacing (mine does) and I know the Gunnar has English threading and spacing. The 2 are not interchangable.|

|There's a picture of the bike in the galleries with a link back to my web page for the bike. It's set up for road riding at the moment with 28mm Contis on it (actually, it's probably in multiple boxes at the LBS at the moment while the frame goes home to Wisconsin -- sniff).|

|The Fuji had 175-who knows why it seems pretty long for track but that was the stock length. I use 172.5 on all my other road half bikes, 175 on the tandem and ATB. I'm thinking about 170 for SS road.

|I was running a set of 175's (I'd used them about a year, on and off) during Solvang, when I blew my knee, and have since gone back to the stock length, 170 mm, which is more comfortable.
I picked up a set of 160's for off-road use, to get more ground clearance, and found they worked surprisingly well, even on the street.
I'm 5' 10.5", about a 34" inseam.
The Gunnar needs a nice long break-in on the towpath. Its very much like what I want to build.
