This tandem rocks! Kathy and I had one aborted out-of-saddle climb, but other than that things were great on our break-in ride this weekend. 9 tandems and 14 half-bikes in all. (2-calfee's, 2-Cannondales, 1-Steve Rex, 1-Santana, 1-Uncle Fester, 1- Cousin itt, and 1-Seven). Pretty good company. The Steve rex, piloted by Long distance legend Craig Robertson and stoked by our club pres. (training for the next PBP) led out hitting 30+ on some of the flat stretches.
The Calfee is incredibly comfortable cruising. WE're both on Terry Butterfly saddles now and they are INVISIBLE.
The 12-27 cog is fine. We did a couple of steep hills last week and 27/30 is plenty with this feathery machine.
Handling is quick but not twitchy. I have to be careful of toe overlap at slow speeds with the AME carbon fork though. With all the other busy goings on of a tandem I could live without that. I'm considering surgery to remove 1/2" and 40 grams from each foot.
Re: Toe Clip Overlap can you rotate your eccentric?MB1

Give it a try.

We gotta be below $.75 per mile on our tandem now. we were flying on Monday too, keeping it around 30 on a long stretch of rollies.

I sure like bikes!
I can, but then my chain would sag : (MrCelloBoy

For the time being I'm training my toes to go up at under 5 mph!
Our paths will surely cross someday. I look forward to meeting.
Can you rotate it 180 degrees?MB1

I imagine that you already know this but, hey maybe you don't.

Usually there are 2 places in an eccentric's rotation that take up the same amount of chain. One is higher above the ground than the other. If you choose the lower position your seat has to be lowered a little but it should pull your BB further away from the wheel.

We will probably be in California in late October for a self-supported ride from SFO to LAX. Want to ride the coast?

I'll check!

OOohhhh.
My sweetie is going away for a "girls- only weekend" at the end of Oct. I might be able to swing it on my half-bike.
More details?
When we have them, I'll let you know.MB1
