I am a dirty girl...Spinchick

I am covered with sweat, dust, sand, caked-on road grime and llama hair (keep reading)...I had a Japanese beetle in my mouth today - it flew in as I crested a hill...I saw only one other rider today...I saw 4 wild turkeys and 2 turkey buzzards..they are normally very ugly creatures...this morning they were beautiful...I rode through fields with my new big tires...I loved it...I will do this again and again...I am very dirty...I was chased by a llama...I did not know it was in the field...I did not know they could run that fast...I hit a sand pit at 18mph and went ass over end onto a dirt road...I am okay...I passed a one arm cyclist...you go brother!...did I mention I was chased by a llama?...it did not like me...or else it liked me very much...I got sand in my mouth...it was slightly more bearable then the Japanese beetle...I was challenged to a race by two teenage boys on mountain bikes...they asked me if I was chicken...I am no Spinchicken I said...I kicked their asses...HAH...what a ride...I am in the clouds...do I have to come down?...I am happy you all are reading this and relate and don't think I've gone off the deep end...even if you do think that it doesn't matter BECAUSE I HAD A GREAT RIDE...I am STARVING...gotta go...

So, which bike were you on. The Mountain Bike or the "Off Dirt" bike?

The Off Dirt - with the new big tires. Not sure I would have left the boys in the dust on the MTB. Or the llama for that matter...

I have really been getting into riding on the dirt with roadish bikes. It seems to be a little more challenging and just amusing as can be.

We rode around Bull Run mountain on Sunday about 1/2 of it was dirt-gravel roads. Almost no traffic and terrific views. Unfortunately Miss M laid it down on a gravel descent, got the off-road rash thing happening. Had to cut our ride short (we only got in 95).

I think we will be backing off on the dirt for the next week or so.

It is great fun. Sorry to hear about Miss M's mishap - that truly sucks.

As far as the road bikes on the dirt, I just got Hubby convinced that I need a new road bike (I'm having some fit problems). Can you just imagine his reaction when I say I now need a cyclocross as well? Oh my...

Hey MB1, you sound like a girly-man with the "you go girl" BS! Drop it. It makes me want to puke!

took the cyclocross on from Guildford to Brighton on the Downs Link Saturday and had the same (offroad) experience of flying past mountain bikers - lots of them - it's great passing people off road when they're on a full suspension high end mtb. and you've got skinny tyres and drop bars

mind you it took two hours on Sunday to clean the bike properly
LOL - Thanks for sharingKristin

i am sitting here with a bag of ice on my knee. I have ruptured my acl and torn both menisci in right leg. No dirt, no riding, no fun for me (insert pity here). Seriously, I am glad you had a good ride and it sounds like you appreciate it. All you able-bodies, appreciate the good riding days and the bad because the worst days are the days without rides.
NH I will feel sorry for you...Spinchick

because I would be feeling sorry for myself were I in your situation. I am sorry you are injured. Take it easy and recover quickly. Many positive vibes coming your way :-)
Thanks Spinchick...NH

hard not to feel sorry for myself but i keep thinking how many others are worse off than i am. I really do appreciate riding my bike and i know i will be back on it in no time. Thank you for the positive thoughts. They are much needed right now.
