attn: Speeddream/AC Micro hub owners..Jay H

I took a set of Speeddream Aerolights to the Alaska AIDS Vaccine Ride this past August and the horrible gravel road condition have caused a little play in the AC Micro hub in the front. Wheels is still true but there is a real small amount (but noticeable) of lateral play in the hub now with the tire/wheel tight in the fork drops. I took the wheel off an the QR off and it looks like the two little axle holders might have some wear in them? Is the AC Micro a cartridge bearing hub? I'm not a hub person and have never worked on one before nor have I had to so this is new to me. Any ideas on how to correct this, has anybody had this problem before?

Call Dave and ask him what to do. He's a nice guy. While you're at it, ask him where my set is. I've been waiting since May for them (rims are back ordered). Do you like them? Tell me its worth the wait, please.

Yeah, I probably could. I was in the same boat as you, I called him in May and was told Sun is not making those rims anymore (or perhaps this has since changed?) and that they were going to make a replacement one in August. Of course, now it's september so who knows.. Anyway, I basically bought my set used but it was babied and was practically new. So I could call Dave since I plan on trying to fix it myself, unless I need a new hub which I don't think it's that bad.

As far as what I think, I have about 1000 miles on them since June (I commute on them) and they're excellent, still true after riding on some really harsh roads. I bet there was about a total of 25 miles in Alaska that was unpaved and the wheels held up with nary as much of a loose spoke. The wheels are still fairly true although I might want to touch up the front wheel a little and of course. Of course, you know of my little hub problem now.

I think they're worth the wait!

Thanks. If anything, Dave will talk your leg off about wheels. More detail than I want and I'm a certified Bike Pervert. He now says he'll have rims by the end of September. I've been waiting this long, what's another month? It is always reassuring that owners of aerolights all seem to love them. I look forward to getting them.
