Today I did my first solo 40 mile ride. It's been 2 months and 2 days since I got my bike and I probably should have done it sooner but since my wife got her bike I have been trying to get her up to speed. 99% of the ride was done on majorly traveled streets, but I was able to finish with a 16.5 mph average. 3 of my rear spkes broke on the ride home. Must likly my fault, when my first one broke last week I decided to fix it myself. Oh well what can you do? I set out to do 40 so when I got a block from my house and my odometer read 38.9 I circled the block until it hit 40. I was lucky about 3 minutes after I walked in the house it started to pour down rain. I really started to feel exausted about 10 minutes after I got home. I feel much better after Powerade, Advil and some food. Anyway just wanted to share my accomplishment.

Hey Randy, nice job. I remember when I did my first 40 miler, I was very proud of myself too. Before you know it, a 40 mile ride will be a quickie.

Your pretty new to cycling, right? Just wondering...how old are you?

About those spokes...Bruno

If its a new bike you should get the wheel re-spoked under warranty. There is no reason for them to break like that. Once a spoke breaks others start breaking but it should not happen at all. If its an old bike do not replace the spokes that broke, the wheel needs to be completly re-spoked since it has been stressed from riding with broken spokes.

Congrats, Randy. Like they said, soon 40 will be a "quickie." Keep it up. It only gets better!
