Headed out for my first group ride this evening. Local bike store/club has "slow" ride open to the public on wednesday nights. Still hope I don't get dropped! :)

Earlier this morning, I would have pointed you to the tech talk portion of this site, with a brief section of tips on riding in groups. However, with recent changes, I'm not certain it exists anymore. Don't worry so much about getting dropped on your first ride that you get in over your head. Remember to communicate with other riders in the group. For example, let people behind you know if you're slowing or stopping and let them know about hazards in the road.

AndyN - Group rides are lots of fun. Most important tip I can give... Hang out afterwards and meet some people. Even if you got stuck riding primarily alone tonight.

On my first couple club rides, I breifly met some people afterwards. Three weeks later I show up on a cancelled ride (rained out) and got to ride with three people I'd breifly met before. They taught me all kinds of stuff about pacelining and road ettiquitte. Plus they've become friends.
