Bianchi Boy's raves got me looking into a Gios. The compact pro is a well designed modern-classic bike. To my dismay, Excel was out of everything in my size except a megalite - the sale is going well. I figured, what the heck...and went for it, and when it arrived it was a knock-out! great looking frame - no wasted space or extra metal, and real nice detailing. I'm building it up now with Chorus and Racing T. Chorus headset and carbon fork and installed. My LBS guy liked the fork. I've had a lot of trouble finding a good, dialed in fit and the preliminary fit test is good. Finish and quality are sensational. My first real Eyetalian road bike and it is way cool so far. I think I'm going to like it.

For the money, I don't think you can find a better deal right now than the Gios frames at Excel. I'm still dialing in the fit on my bike, as well, but that's my problem and not the bike. I have fully extended the adjustable rear drop-outs and it is one smooth riding bike. It also is very stiff when climbing out of the saddle or sprinting. The quality of finish and workmanship is outstanding.

The MegaLite is a very nice frame, as well, and the oversized tubing looks great, but I'm partial to old-school lugs and chrome. Now all you need is one of those L. Garneau Italy jerseys to complete your transformation to an Eyetalian biker.

Yea, brother! Like you, I would have gone with the lugged Compact Pro, but the only 50cm steel frame they had was the megalite and price on was just too good to pass up. After seeing it in person, no regrets whatever; it's going to work out just fine. Soon as it's built up I'm going to put on my trusty Campagnolo red/green jersey, and ride south to Italy, Texas, about 50 miles round trip. Go Gios!

I bought a near-new lugged Gios Megalite from a fellow on a bike forum a month or so ago primarily for the components. I was so impressed with the look and ride of the Gios that I sold the frame and fork I was going to switch components to and kept the Gios. Nice look, nice ride, great value.
