|I'm just a commuter, so no heavy biking tech happening here. I've been riding my MTB for 3 years now and decided I'd try a road bike for a change. So, I picked up an old Raleigh Competition. I'm rebuilding right now, and I see it has 27 x 1 Araya rims. The tires need replacing and I need to know: Can 700c and 27" be interchanged? I see tubes that go either way. Can I use 27 x 1 1/4 in place of the 27 x 1 tires if I change the tubes as well? I don't see too many 27" tires for sale. What gives? Thanks for your time.....|

|27"x11/4 tires are available through Nashbar @ $9.95 each through $12.95. Rod, parts for your vintage are available through the internet, you just need to search a bit and know what you are looking for.|

|Nashbar hooked me up alright, but they were cheap-ass Cheng Shin. I hope they hold the rim ok. I'm 6'2", weigh 245!! I'm putting them on 27x1 rims, they are 27 x 1 1/4 tires. Is that ok? I figured that if I can go down to 1.5" tires on my MTB rims I can go up to 1.25 from 1.0 on the road tires. I'm putting in the proper tubes as well. I also got a 48 cm ergo bar and new tape, now I need new levers. C'mon, EBAY!! BTW, the brakes are new to me..they have a strange mark on them, kind of an "A X" put together followed by "GC". They look nice, especially the calipers. But the gum hoods were shot and I think I'd rather get new levers to go with the new bar and tape. The rest of the bike is Suntour Cyclone II with Sugino cranks.
Thanks for the replies!
