It looks like the same size frame as my Merak. They measure these by the top tube length more than anything. The 56cm would be to the top of the seat tube over the top tube.

Confusing enough?

What's Lance Riding?
A 58 cm Trek 5500 (measured top to center, while center to center it's a 56 - normally bikes are measured c to c). Full Dura Ace components - gears, brakes, and cranks. His usual rear gearing is 11-21 but sometimes he'll go 11-23 depending upon the difficulty - in training it's 12-23 and it's always a 53/39 up front. As for Pedals, he's an "old schooler" riding Look-style Shimanos. He uses an SRM for training (a high tech computer for watts, heart rate, etc.). Up front LA uses a a Deda Newton stem and handlebars. Lance rides Hutchinson tires, using clinchers in training, and sew-ups for the races...

Copied and Pasted, verbatim. Right from the link you posted.

And before you ask, his Time Trial bike is all new - designed and built by Trek based on data from the wind tunnel...
