Help, looking flor a bike that would fit....TJfreeride

my wife at 5'6" and me at 5'10". She has long legs and long arms for her height and I have fairly short legs and arms for my height. She recently expressed interest in getting into road riding but I don't want to go out and buy a bike for her just yet. The reason being that I bought her a MTB a while back but she never got into it. Eventually sold it. I don't want to make the same mistake again so that is why I am looking for a bike that would fit both of us just in case she ends up never riding the bike. Do you all think about a medium compact-type frame from Schwinn or Giant would be able to fit both of us by swapping out the stem and bars and sliding the seat? Or is this a bad idea?? I am open to other suggestions. Thanks.

Look at a used road bike. Because of the fashion-victimization of lots of dummies, there are hundreds of used road bikes on the market at bargain prices. A bike with a finely made frame and 6 to 8 rear cog set speeds and good components can be had from $300 to $800; while new road bikes with ugly frames and low-end components start at over a grand! It's absolutely a buyer's market for used road machinery as long as you haven't been lobotomized by fashion!
