|I have been riding my road bike for 3 weeks now. I started of at 11.5 and now my avg.speed is fluxuating in between 12.5 and 14.0 avg. What is happening to me while I am riding. Of course you are going to need to know somethings. I have rode from 5 miles starting off to 25 miles today. I am trying to figure out why I am seeing these weird fluxuation in avg.speed? And as far as hydration or eating, Ihave only consume water and Gatorade, and some Chewy gronola bars. What is causing my flux in avg.speed?|

|Speaking from my own experience, your average speed is a funny thing depending your riding style and where you ride. If you ride in the street with traffic lights at every block, this basically blows your average speed.|

|To generalize a bit, it takes a while to develop your cycling muscles and in that time (3 weeks is not a long time), it's not uncommon to see wide fluctuations in average speeds... even over the same terrain.
Best to concentrate on building your base miles (even this late in the NA season unless you're blessed with year round cycling weather) than your average speed per se. Increasing your milage by 5 to 10 percent weekly is a good start. There are of course, other training methods at your disposal... I guess it would depend on your longterm goals.
Be the bike.

|Thanks for the advice . I have just got back to riding my road bike after a short break from it. I started off riding 5 miles with different terrian ,to riding up tp 25 miles with some hills and some flat terrian. But when I used to ride before This ,I never saw a increase in speed like this. The avg Speed was 15 mph. So why now am I seeing the increase in avg.speed. But as far my goal ,i Have some long term and short term . I want to try a road race or Crit ,next year . But as far as short term I think I do a Tour of the State I live in in a month. My base miles are up to 15 miles.|
