a naked mermaid like my retired Coast Guard bud has on his. She's a BABE! Or a bicycle wheel (36 hole w/aero rim).

Remember you can't donate blood for a year afterwards.

If you are ever on the run from the authorities, they will have an easier way of tracking you down.

draw it and have it traced/drawn on your leg in inkpen before you take the plunge. i'm the happy owner of a few myself, and though no regrets (want more and more but can't afford more skin art AND bike crap), i'd have selected more apt artists and stuff that could tie-in with my other stuff if i'd known then what i know now.

also, the work--good or bad--fades after awhile. delicate detail becomes a smudge. some not so much as others, but hey...

my advice: tribal bike art. let me know if you find some!

If you find an image you like, put a copy up on your fridge for six months. If after those six months, you still want that tatto, then go for it. You might find that you'll be sick of the image by then though.

You *should* want it (sorry about appearing perjorative here) on your RIGHT calf- otherwise only the people passing you on their bikes will see your tattoo, rather than all the people YOU pass!

How about a road rash tattoo- the appearance of scar tissue and mangled flesh with imbedded gravel and broken glass?

It seems like a cool idea now that you are young, but think about having the damn thing 20 years from now. You won't be that impressed with it as it fades and just gets "old and tired". Trust me, leave this world the way you came in it with no unnecessary marks on you. Tattoos are way too fashionable nowadays. Some tattoos are pretty cool, but it is only about showing others your dedication when all whose opinion should matter is your own. You know you love to ride bikes and let your shaved legs be the only thing to identify that ot others. Some gay looking chain ring or chain looped around your calf won't make you more dedicated.
What if you get old and fat (which is possible)? You still want that as a reminder of how lazy you are if you take a break from cycling when you get older? Hey it is your body and do what you want, but my girlfriend had a few tattoos that she got when she was younger and only one really means anything (my name tattooed on her ankle). Some may think that is flattering and say "You are doing her right for her to do that", but she did it without my blessing and it is ridiculous. Just to get attention. At least she can hide it when she wants to.
All those tribal bands and design tattoos seemed cool a few years ago, but now every knucklehead guido and frat boy has them and they are just stupid looking now. So DON'T DO IT.

I can't help it that your GF is *crazy* ;) .... and assuming someone isn't going to be completely stooopid about a tattoo....

I agree that there are PLENTY of stooopid tattoos, trendy tats, etc... and a tattoo won't make anyone more dedicated, but I've never regretted a tattoo (and I have about 16 hours of work on my body). Yes there are people who pick a design off a wall and end up regretting it. Who cares about what a tattoo looks like in 30 years? Besides, a calf really shouldn't get THAT fat!

I'll be getting a Colnago three leaf clover tattoo with the world color stripes some day (actually it's supposed to be a flower per Ernesto)

Some inking ideas:
1.Campy "Wings"
2.Chainring at upper calf, freewheel at ankle, chain attached to both
3.Chainring with flying flames
4.Cycling Cap on skullshead
5.Chainring with skull in center
6.Chainring with skull in center with optional flames
7.In bold print from the top down: Dura Ace
8.In bold print from the top down: Dura Ace with optional lightning bolt background
9.Superman emblem with "SuperGams" written underneath
10.Bicycle pump with hose running up your leg into your crotch area

I was going to get inked when I was younger but I am glad I didn't do it. But to each his/her own. Good Luck with your decision.
