I love this message board!Spinchick

I've only been reading here a couple of weeks (posting for less than that) and all I can say is: Where else can I learn so much about bikes, components, technique, fitness, and haiku all in one site??? (And I was an English Lit. major.) I do realize of course, that much of the info posted here is subjective. But, even taking that into consideration, what a wealth of information!

Spinchick, glad you like the board! There is alot of useful stuff here, and the more the merrier.

To "Just Wonderin", I'll admit I was having a bad day and should not have posted anything. I'm human and sometimes post things I shouldn't. Can we move on? In general I try to be helpful if I have something to offer, and not flame or poke my nose in where I have nothing to offer. Seriously, if you read my posts, I try to be helpful. Not sure why you make me out to be such a tyrant. Handshake? Feel free to e-mail me (love2cycle@home.com), this board doesn't need bad blood.

It's nice to share passion. Isn't that what it boils down to?

The "P" word has been in my mind lately - leave it up to Dog to put it succinctly.

Without the passion we'd just be a bunch of droids spouting the party line and mfr's specs.

Welcome. I have re-awakened the passion for cycling and have found this board to be invaluable as I have come back to cycling after 14 years off the bike. I just got a new foco frame and carbon fork and I am like a kid with excitement. Its a sport you can participate in at almost any age and you can get out of it what you put in.

For a newbie who does not get his fill of cycling talk because he has no other cycling friends, this board is a godsend!

If I didn't have the people on this board to exchange thoughts (read PASSION) with, my husband would have to listen to it constantly. Unfortunately, he's not a cyclist. Fortunately, he's not a cyclist (somebody has to stay home with the kid!). Hey, only one self-absorbed Prima Donna to a marriage, please.

i think the people at the bike shop got tired of me coming in like everyday so i could talk bikes with someone.

Robin, welcome. This community seems more receptive to letting new folks actively participate than most, and that is part of its charm. It does have its ups and downs, but you can easily figure out which is which. Like most sources of information on the Internet, be a little cautious and verify the information somewhere else if you can, especially if your money is involved.

That is one of the great things I noticed - that nobody slammed me for "jumping in" and posting right away. You are right, that is something I noticed about other boards. I don't usually let it intimidate me, but it does suck to have people get annoyed when you jump into a thread you find amusing and/or helpful. I did read-only for a week or two just to find out the flavor of the group. Definetely like the flavor!

Last night I came home from my ride feeling really good about my 7:48 3mi.TT,I have only been riding for about 8mos.,I casually told my wife about my accomplishment and she gave me a confused look and asked if I go around bragging to all my friends about my cycling,I told her that she and the people I work with are probably the only people that even know I ride at all,and I never talk about cycling unless people ask me,most people just are not interested. Only folks who are really addicted care to elaborate on the pros and cons of a triple crank or the best combination of shorts and chamois creme, all others just don't understand, but on this board I have seen these subjects disected down to scientific analysis, and nowhere else, and that my friends is passion.

This time last year I didn't know squat about road bikes. I was a happy MTBer. It had been 15 years since I had ridden a "10" speed. I was amazed that with these new shifters you actually shifted on the brake levers. What new and wonderfull magic was this?! Anyway, to make a long winded story short, I wound up getting a road bike about 4 months ago and have happily put on 1400 miles or so. I've learned a ton of info from you people. I used to post more when I had more questions (all those newby questions that show up over and over again) now I just lurk and read most of the time. It is good to have found a forum where others with the "bug" hang out. Erik

I am here almost every night, feel strangely out of touch if I miss a night! I Often forget that I've never met any of you, but simply read these posts. One warning, learn quickly the names or handles of posters who repeatedly attempt to cause trouble, and avoid reading anything they post, and remember, a response is the only encouragement they require.
I have to agree, too.JL

I've been following/posting here for about a year or so, and I can't get enough. It's easy to ignore the bogus posts/arguments, and mostly you get some really good information here. You see a lot of the same questions, but so what. Every now and then, there's a new wrinkle thrown in that you may not have heard/thought of as response. Like some one else said, if it wasn't for this board, my wife would have kicked me out by now. I'm hooked.

Happy riding.
