Hi. What are everyone's opinion of these frames? I had bought a used Vortex, loved it, but had to sell due to a cash crunch. I am considering picking up a used Extralight or a used Vortex again, when I graduate from college in a few months. I can't ride an Extralight, there are none in stock in my area. Opinions?

I am having the same problem with Merlin as they have none for me to ride in my size.

I have never ridden a Vortex, but I have owned an Extralight for 9 years. I really do enjoy the way the Extralight rides. I have test ridden a Palmares and that is one stiff bike!! I have talked with people who have ridden both and they have said that both bikes ride very well, but each has a different feel. When I pressed them on the "different feel" thing, they just could not describe it.

If you liked the Vortex and it fit you well, I'd buy a Tuscany new at one of these end of the year blowouts -- seems like you can get them for around a grand. Pretty much the same frame as the Vortex, just a few ounces more and different stickers.

As I own both bikes, I think I can speak on the subject. The Extralight is a lighter frame, but is MUCH less stiff than the Vortex. When I switched to the Vortex, I was so pleased with how it rode- it accellerated much better, and seemed to be a much more stable platform. The Merlin is a great century bike, and it's what I spent most of my long winter days on; but now that going fast season is here, the Vortex is more suitable.
