Good bar tape?(5 posts)

Good bar tape?MVN

I'm a newbie and I was wondering what is some good bar tape. The tape on my new bike seems thinner than other bikes I've tried. Is the thickness pretty standard, or is there tape out there that has more cushion than others and is more comfortable? Any advice/opinions welcome, no flames please, just trying to learn. Thanks.

I find Cinelli tape to be the nicest, but I buy Profile because it feels almost as good and is MUCH more durable.

I use Cinelli bar tape as well - very comfortable, and seems to last the better part of a year before needing to be replaced (unless I tear it on something, or wrap it too loosely) - well worth the $12 it costs in most places!

I use Profile. It's synthetic, and it's a little springier than real cork and a lot tougher. It doesn't have an adhesive back, and it stretches, two factors that I find make it easier to put on the bike. On the other hand, real cork, like Cinelli has a nice feel to it...

over some old cinelli cork tape. I get most of the shock-absorbing effect, and have an outer tape which doesn't curl, wear, or show dirt.
