Double to Triple/Triple to DoubleAztecs

I have a Shimano 105 Double. What whould be the cost to turn it in to a triple (don't need one yet, but may when I start doing rides of 40+). What would be the cost if I had a Triple and wanted a double? Just curious.

Thanks

I see a triple ultegra upgrade kit in Colorado Cyclist for $460. Crank and BB, F/R Derail, STI levers and chain. Plus Labor.

LG's reply would be the maximum cost scenario. If your STI levers are models ST-5500CA, ST-5500C (9 speed), or the ST-1055 with a triple compatible left shifter (8 speed), then you don't need new shifters. Otherwise, you can order just the left shifter through your LBS, although I have no idea what inventory availability is like. If you're careful about shifting, i.e.: never shift into the small-small combo, you don't even need a new rear der although it would probably be recommended. You would definitely need a new crankset, bottom bracket, front derailleur, and chain. Other things to consider are bottom bracket threading (most likely but not necessarily English) and spindle length, and braze-on or clamp front derailleur.

Cost? I don't know -- I'll let you play with that list of parts on your favorite web site and you'll have to factor in the cost of labor at your LBS.

Cost? The cost of the crankset. I think you should be able to use your current BB. If you are serious, I have a spare 105 triple year 2001. I can let you have it for cheap. I can take pictures of it too if you want. Unfortunately, my LBS didn't give me back the crankarm nuts when they were take it out to install the Dura Ace. I just replaced it with a double Dura Ace. You also need a triple front derrallieur. I am supposed to get one from Performance but haven't received one yet. I ordered it when I was still using the triple 105. Guess I don't need it now.

I also have a triple rear derralleiur 105. This is the bike that I have:

I pretty much upgrade to an all out Dura Ace drivetrain.
