i am new to the sport . i was wondering if the key to being good is just strength , or is there techniques , etc.

both my good woman/man. some folks with good form can outgun folks with greater strength and vica versa. the key to improving is to work on both, hopefully at the same time. anytime you go out, whether it be for a long ride or a short intervals ride, you can work on learning to spin.

...ditto, technique, much like in Martial Arts, will carry you much further than brute strength (take it from a semi reformed masher).

Proper technique will allow you to develope efficient strengths to keep you cycling for years to come.

Be the bike.
