Curious... your height and bike size(58 posts)

Curious... your height and bike sizeSamDC

I was just curious as to people's frame size and their height. I know that everybody is unique and may ride a different frame size. However, I just wanted to get a picture of what people find comfortable in realtion to their height.

I forgot to mention that I was in the market for a frame (no $$$ at this point but hopefully soon) and was curious as to what size somebody my proportions should ride (5'10'' with 31'' inseam). According to the ColoradoCyclist formulae, I should ride a 54 cm (c-c), but I thought a 56 cm felt more comfortable. So, I was wondering what others rode. Thanks for your help!!!

I know what you mean about a larger size fitting better. I'm 5'9" 32.25" inseam and I have a 54cm that feels a bit short.
I think it has to do with the top tube length in relation to your sternum height. I have seen some online bike fitting forms that might help to confuse you more; airborne or try sheldon brown harris cyclery or this one: http://www.bsn.com/cycling/ergobike.html
Good Luck

don't buy for the seat tube lenght then. Buy the top tube.
The seat tube really doesn't matter since you can get as much seatpost out as you want. The top tube is what counts and the longer you ride, the more you'll adjust this. When I started riding, I was at a 110 stem. Now I'm at a 140 which is about as long as it gets.

BTW: 6' 32 inseam 54 c-c and 55 top tube

I'm 5'11" with a 32" inseam and usually aim for a 555-565 mm top tube depending on the seat tube angle. Standover height is important on my cyclo-cross bike (I am in the process of ordering a new Gunnar Crosshairs, probably a 540, that will replace a too large Bianchi), less so on my road bike.

I can just feel the top tube in my crotch,4" of seatpost showing,100mmx90 stem,175mm crankarms,I have very long legs and short torso so I am very hard to fit,my advice for sport touring-buy the largest frame you can stand over and make adjustments from there.Just my opinion though others may differ,BTW the Litespeed does ride great.

Sounds like one could throw out most of the bike fit formula's based on the responces. Just ride what feels right!

6'4.5", 37.75" inseam, 65cm frame center to center with a 1 cm extension on the head tube. The way it's set up, it's virtually a 68cm frame center to center. That would make it about 69 cm center to top.

5'11", and the bike is too small ...Humma Hah
Aug 16, 2001 6:28 AM
I have no idea what size the cruiser is, BB to top of seat tube. Way too small by any conventional thinking. I rode the same type frame at age 12 and it was too big then. At age 48 it is small. I found a really long seat post for it and switched the bars, and it fits me like a glove.

One consequence of this is that I can't ride with anything but platform pedals. I can comfortably ride on the balls of my feet only when standing. When seated, I must move my feet forward until they're comfortable.
