I'm looking for some info on owning a bike shop. As I understand it, one owns a bike shop of the love of bikes, not becuase it's a money pit. Any thoughts?

isn't loving bike, it's loving the customers. If you're thinking of opening a bike shop, I would really recommend working in one first. It's not an easy business and it isn't getting any easier.

You have to like bikes more than people.

After working in bike shops for over 5 years, including being a shop manager, that's probably an understatement.

I've seen some nasty trends over the last ten years or so. Things like the customer comes first and that kind of BS. Man, I used to love running people out of the shop back in the 80s. Now bikes shops gotta be run like actual retail establishments if you want to stay in business. No more sloppiness and attitude--gotta be like Starbucks. It's a cruel world.
