Do a good deed - impress a kidterry b

Tonight I was out turning laps on a back road in my village - no real riding goal, just trying to clear my head in advance of an impending monsoon thunder shower. I was spinning along at about 19 mph when a pickup pulled along side me and a boy, probably about 11 or 12 yelled, "do you wanna race?" I kind of laughed and then decided, "why not." I hunkered down and spun like a madman, actually pulling alongside the truck at about 28 mph (the local speed limit is 25) and then passing them at about 30. The kid's jaw just dropped, his Dad sped up a little to keep pace and the kid then broke into a huge beaming smile. They turned off and I went on feeling really good. With all the crappy car/truck/people experiences we complain about here, this one left me feelng like I'd done a good thing for a youngster - maybe even making him interested in getting his bike out and barreling down the road.
Nice goingSoren Kierkegaard

NOT! Now, that kid is gonna want to go fast....too fast for his own good. Eventually, he'll die going down some steep hill, or sprinting down the highway. And it's all gonna be your fault...all because you wanted to show off. Stay with your snob cyclist friends with your $3000 framesets and stay away from our youth!
As for me, I'll stay on my baeutiful Scwinn BMX while I watch your pathetic faces when I drop you on a century. TRUE

Kierkegaard in what context did you read him? I read him in divinity school. Your writing is a bit different from his.

that could not string two coherent sentences together last week in your "why am I slow?" post? Last week spelling, puctuation and basic literacy were troublesome, this week Kierkegaard and divinity school? I think that someone poached your handle Rev! ;-)

This type of stuff almost makes you want to continue torturing yourself in this sport.

Had something similar happen with two 12 year boys riding their bikes (BMX's, in fact) as I was doing intervals in the neighborhood. "Man, look at that guy fly!" Immediate ego boost, even if my speed is, actually, pretty lame. They don't need to know that.
