I'm not sure of the politics of it all, but could not Telekom be invited to the SFGP? Jan doesn't sound like he is doing the Vuelta.
I would fly to SF to watch that.

It would be excellent for sure! I'm volunteering at the race and it would be so great to see them together at the GP, maybe get a chance to see them fly by at each others wheels for just a second....!

I'm certainly not the first person to ask about this, but I would assume that Telekom would not travel to the U.S. unless there was some pretty good appearance money. I don't think this race is that wealthy or prestgious yet.

But yes, I would love to see it...
No politics involvedmr_spin

I'm sure Telekom has already been invited. If nothing else, because they are one of the top Division 1 teams. I doubt a whole lot of Euro teams will come, considering it's only a 1.4 category race. That means few UCI points, so unless the purse is huge, it's not worth the money and flight to come over from Europe.

Ullrich won't come. He's thinking of the World's and it's a long flight. Plus, the GP Eddy Merckx is the same day, which besides being very prestigious, is rated 1.2. It's a two-man time trial, and Ullrich is a time trialist, so count on him being there with Vinokurov or Kloden. Lance won it last year with Ekimov.

The next meeting of Ullrich and Armstrong should be the Championship of Zurich. They went head to head in this race last year, and it was one the best races of the whole year. It's a World Cup race, too, which means all the heavy hitters will be there.

Finally, I'd bet on Trent Klasna of Saturn to win the GP San Francisco. Lance was amazing in the Tour, but Klasna has been hot all year long.

BTW, here's a link: http://procyclingtour.com/race12_info.htm

$40,000 purse doesn't strike me as worth flying over from Europe for. It does sound like I'll get on BART and head over to The Ciy to watch the race, though.
