There are some very good deals to be had on the web on the Shimano Ultegra 6500 wheelset. I believe that it is identical to the more expensive Dura Ace wheelset, but that the hub innards are slightly different, and the freewheel is steel rather than Ti. I read somewhere on the web that you could lighten the Ultegra wheelset by swapping out the Ultegra bearings and freewheel with "stock" Dura Ace parts. Has anyone tried this? What kind of cost is involved?

Thanks

I rode the DA's this spring while my Vector Comps were in the shop. I honestly could not tell the difference. They were very nice wheels the DA's, but I wouldn't run out and buy a set based upon what I own. I doubt that switching out bearings and axles will result in any major difference. Cassette and skewers might lighten them some, but it gets back to the old bang for the buck theory and is it worth it.
