Howdy all, there's a riot goin' on at MTBR over the new classifieds, so I thought I'd try my luck over here. Anyway, I was intrigued by Bicycling's write-up of the Surprise. It LOOKS good, but it just another aluminum bike or is it worth the $1600 or so clams? What think you?

The Surprise is not the lightest frame in the world, but it certainly does not deserve to be called "very heavy." It is around the same weight as a nice Tig welded steel frame and also some Ti frames. If you are a weight weenie this is probably not the best frame for you. If you would be happy with a 18 - 20 lb bike, I think it is a great ride. I have had mine a year, no complaints at all. Mine weighs 19.25 lbs with Chorus and an Ouzo Pro fork.(58 size) I also have the fairly beefy Mavic 33 rims, LOOK's and Rolls Ti saddle, so there is still some weight that could come off my bike if I wanted. My last bike was 23 lbs, SLX frame with Ultegra 8. Now that was heavy. Surprise frame alone is 800 with Pinarello CF.
