in the spirit of Dog Sloan's new handle, suggestions for me?Haiku d'état
Aug 9, 2001 11:22 AM
now that Do(u)g has a cool new handle, i can't bear to go on as dull ol' "jeffreyh", even IF the "h" can be construed as "haiku". this could be an early form of mid-life crisis. nah, probably just handle envy.

my other net account is "cat5tattoo". since i don't race, but i do ride a bit like a squirrel in heat, i was thinking "cat7haiku", but that's a little cumbersome. suggestions appreciated (haiku welcome).

be nice.

I you register and then change your handle through the Preferences, it also changes all the messages you did while registered. Sort of fun.

I'd go with an animal name. Here's a list
"Amphibian Larva" LOL. i'll keep scrolling down. nm (nh)Haiku d'état

I pushed "Next 40" a couple of times and looked up some old messages. Things I KNOW were posted by "Doug Sloan" are now "Dog"!

So, if I see Dog coming up behind me in my third-eye mirror, will I think its .... I don't even wanna THINK about it.

Why is it always like this: I pick a good original screen name only to have everyone else start making up new versions of the same god damn thing? Ouch, very ouch!!!!

Woof, the original dog
this is why there's a cycling "Prime Directive"Haiku d'état
Aug 10, 2001 5:13 AM
if you travel back in time and distract the maker of Doug Sloan's colnago on the day of the birth of that bike, does that mean that the Dog of today would still be Dog, or Doug, and would be be riding 508 miles? would he even be a lawyer? what if we went back to the birth of the ancestors of the folks that started colnago, hyp-mo-tized them and implanted "centurion" in the subconscious, 150 years down the road would Doug actually BE a Dog? if a butterfly landed on a leaf floting on a puddle in the amazon,...

Comments:

Len J, thanks for the reminder that ee cummings is amazing.

i'm surprised at the number of cat-related and anti-dog entries. am i the alterna-Do(u)g?

ak, haiku is spelled with an "a". you get extra points for "bearded dragon", which is not only thought-provoking, but (unfortunately for me) also just plain provoking.

JL: Anseriformes \An`se*ri*for"mes\, n. pl. (Zo["o]l.) A division of birds including the geese, ducks, and closely allied forms.

HH: i can't very well use either of those without getting booted off the board. just because i'm paranoid doesn't mean you're not out to get me.

dino: LOL. i would think "TLK" better for you, considering you're a giant lizard yourself. or, are you a bird? i'll have to see what discovery channel is claiming THIS week.

woof: imitation is the purest form of flattery

do(u)g: i'm not currently on drugs, but there's the chance that all this (board, work, bike, the rest) is part of a seriously bad trip i had in 1988. i'll come down soon (hope NOT).

bb: a limmerick about haiku. nice.

9WorCP: 'nuff said.

mike mc: there was this band in '89 called old skull. first release called "get outta school". all members were under 10 years old. favorites off that cassette (that i wore out) were "house is on fire" and "who lit the house". their big single (accompanied by a video on mtv) was "homeless", where the chorus was: "home...less! home...less!" check it out--best pre-pubescent punk you'll ever hear.

thanks again, all!

Those are prime successful, A-class rap monikers I'll have you know. Millionaires with (I mean wit) lots of jewelry and furs. I gave you choice cuts and you discard without even a sniff. "Sniff." Oh well.

Yes, I remember those little dudes. I'm always happy to be reminded of forgotten music that was made before 1990, especially almost any band even tangentially inspired by the Sex Pistols. I'm sorry to hear my suggested moniker didn't make the final cut, but I'll admit I really didn't give it that much thought anyhow. It was just a reaction to the recent re-post of the skull valve cap. Best of luck to you in your final selection. I still believe we should follow the lead of Native American tribes that gave names later in life based on personality traits. At this point, I'm considering renaming my 10-month old son He Who Sleeps Not, Small Man Who Pulls Hair, Razor-Teeth, or just plain-old Barfy.
