mtb cantilever brake levers on road bike?(3 posts)

mtb cantilever brake levers on road bike?pbunyan

I bought an old road bike (Raliegh Grand Prix) this weekend at a tag sale. The brake levers are pretty shot. I have some old mountain bike brake levers (for cantilever brakes) in my "spare parts bin." Can I use these on the Raliegh?

Thanks - paul

you mount them on a flat part of the bars. I have seen people do this with levers mounted either side of the stem. Still, they will probably give poor modulation, since cantis have such long travel.

I was going to put them on either side of the stem, as you suggested. However, It was the second part of your answer that I was looking for. I was wondering if the differences in the amount of travel would put me at a mechanical dis-advantage by using the mtb levers on the road bike. It looks like it might.
