I am currently looking at a Bianchi Volpe road bike. Does anyone have any exp. with this make or model. Is 749.00 a good price for it?

Bianchi has a long long heritage of making great racing bikes. I own a 2000 Bianchi Veloce and absolutely love it.

Since BianchiUSA.com shows the Volpe retailing for $949 I'd say that $749 is a pretty good deal.

The only draw back with entry level road bikes are the entry level Shimano Sora parts they all come equiped with. It might be hard to avoid in this price range but see if you can pick something up with Shimano 105 or Campy Veloce parts on it, you won't regret it.

The geometry of the Volpe looks to be a little more upright like a touring bike so take if for a ride and be sure you like the way it handles and fits you. Maybe that is what you are looking for?

Another bike you may want to see if you can find it the Univega Modo Vincere. They are hard to find but list around $999. They have a very nice columbus steel frame - same frame as its older sybling which got rave reveiws - and are all parted with Campy Veloce. The Univega frame might be a little racier if that is what you are looking for. Giant OCR 2's are probably in this price range also which would give you an AU sloping frame with Sora parts.

If you are looking for something more upright then the Bianchi is a good choice. Schwinn also makes a Super Sport in that price range also.

Whatever you get in that price range will be nice and you will have a good time riding so don't worry too much.
