As stated in my post below Im in the market for my first road bike. While shopping at a few bike shops I had almost decided on a Trek 1000, it was onsale for $549.00. (I guess this is a good price) What changed my mind was when I looked closely at the bike (they brought a new one form the back) it had a MADE IN TAWAIN sticker on the head of the frame. The salesman told me that he wasnt sure why the sticker was on there, as far as he knew Trek is made in USA. All of the floor models had the sticker removed.
Does anyone know what the deal is?

I have a Trek 1000, I got it for $549, and it wasn't on sale...he just wants you to think that it is. Well, mine had a "MADE IN TAIWAN" sticker on it too. The guy I got it from told me that the Trek 1000 was the only road bike, (in Trek's line), that was made in Taiwan. I'm pretty sure that the rest of Trek's road bikes have a "MADE IN THE U.S." sticker on the chain stays.

Hope this helps,

I once read that Treks above 2000 series were made in US and below 2000 were made in Tawain. I do not know this for a fact. Maybe someone else can comment? I am sure I read it on this message board a couple of years ago.

The 1000 is indeed the only frame made in Taiwan. The 1200 and up are made in Waterloo.

When did Wisconsin become part of Taiwan?DCP

I've read too many stories about Trek's factory in Wisconsin to all Treks are made in Taiwan. I'm not sure what in their line is made in Wisconsin, but they are not all made in Taiwan.

We frequently remove the label from the trek 1000 but will tell people where it is made if asked and cite it as the reason that the trek 1200 is so much more even though it's equiped the same, roughly 150 more. TTFN
