|I rode with a guy last Saturday who just picked up his new Anvil. The craftsmanship is phenominal, and the finish was beautiful. His frame was a mix of 3 different types of Columbus tubing, and it was built with a sloping top tube. He said the ride far and above any rode bike he'd tried in the past. |
I personally don't know how it rides, but based on what I witnessed, I would certainly consider one if I were in the market.

|I am not an owner either but I have spoken to Don Ferris on several occasions and am impressed with his knowledge and two owners have sent me pictures of their frames in the past and they looked great. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Anvil.|

There appears to be a number of Anvil owners on this Forum, in fact the owner of Anvil seems to post there frequently. (I think he is one of the sponsors).

|there are very few actual owners over there... maybe 2-3, plus a whole lot of wannabees. the guy that just got his hasn't even built it up. they guy that's the sponsor is Don himself, the guy that actually designs and makes the frames- it's a one man show|

|it seemed like there was an awful lot of Anvil conversation ovwer there. Maybe it's because I had never heard about the bike b4.

|All kinds of people raved about them, but awhile back when someone actually called and asked how many real owners there were, only 1 or 2 people actually "raised their hand"... many over there want one, but very few have actually ridden one.|

|Ah, the wonder of email.
Yep, I think you remember correctly but the number is a little on the low side. By my count there are 11 "regulars" or lurkers over there that have them and it's pretty hard to tell how many other people have them because of cyclingforum. A year or two ago, I ran a special on frames built out of a bunch of Genius tubesets I had on hand and they went pretty quick (20-odd frames) and a lot of those "names" I've not seen there since. As I noted in a recent post there, if one were to look at "cyclingforum" you'd think there are a lot of Anvil frames floating around, but it's misleading. I am a "one-man" show and average about 80 frames a year so those numbers alone tell you that they're fairly rare in the cycling community at large, let alone those who frequent cyling forums.
Seriously, I suspect if you posted the name of any particular custom builder, you're not going to find of lot of direct owner feedback unless they build production frames for resale in bikeshops (ala IF, Waterford, Landshark, etc.). It's probably better to just ask for references.
