Do you suppose this is in reaction to the the Birminham Post's columnist Ben Cook's previous diatribe against cycling wherein he ridiculed the sport and even the names of riders. I heard (I am in the newspaper biz)the paper received several hundred irate e-mails and letters in reaction to the Cook piece
Bravo!!

ignorant dribblings from a redneck. "The streets will flow...."??

His responses were humerous and makes no denials that he would not be able to ride his bike from the couch to the fridge to get more chip dip by the time "the game" starts again.

His best one was "Fair enough, Doug; are you sure you are a cyclist? Your letter wasn't filled with expletives and name-calling. It was well thought out and reasonable."
Once again, attempts at humor fail in writing...RhodyRider

That "streets" comment was something from "Beavis & Butthead" (I know, I know...) that just leapt to my mind. It wasn't meant as serious in any way. It simply made me chuckle at the time. But I respectfully maintain my stance that Ben Cook presents himself with undue smugness in the face of counter arguements; I guess we'll agree to disagree on this one, eh?!?
Perhaps mortal combat with old Biopace chainrings? LOL (nm)RhodyRider

Yep, humor does fail to come through does'nt it. My crack at your writing scaring me was also in jest. You are correct that his responses are smug despite the undenial of his sloppy out-of-shape condition. However, his humor may be difficult to get in print? :)

Peace.
That's reasonable, ebh; I see your point. Over & out. (nm)RhodyRider

his editors and publisher ? Did any non-Alabama letters get printed ? This guy is a moron. That's enough of this jerk-off. At least the humor columnist ought to be funny - this guy's the antimatter/negative universe Dave Barry. Thank God he's not carried by the Dallas News or the Ft. Worth Star Telegram.

he doesn't know enough about cycling, obviously, to be witty. I hadn't even heard of Ben Cook before a couple of days ago, so I don't think much of it other than some embarrassment the article was in the B'ham paper. However, I would like to see his fat a** fry ATTEMPTING to ascend the exit from I459S onto 280. It looks to be about 1.125%. ;-)

I am from Birmingham orginanlly and know this guy is trying to be humorous. And to the thousands of fat ass housewives and beer gut husbands reading his article, he probably was. Some people never learn.
